Tooth Bleaching

Tooth bleaching is the most common procedure in cosmetic dentistry. Tooth bleaching is one of the most conservative and less expensive dental treatments for discolored teeth than aggressive methods such as veneers, crowns and bonding to accentuate a customized smile. Teeth whitening treatments are one of the most common treatments in our clinic. Patients who are satisfied with the shape and position of their teeth but are uncomfortable with the shade of tooth color prefer this treatment method. Tooth bleaching basically involves the application of a bleaching agent (h202, carbamide peroxide) to the teeth. Teeth whitening treatments are divided into three types:

Office bleaching,
Home bleaching and
Intracoronal bleaching.

Office Bleaching

In-office whitening is the most commonly used method among all whitening systems. Since the peroxide ratios of the bleaching agents used in the whitening process performed in the clinical environment are higher, whitening is faster and the permanence is longer. Before the teeth whitening process is applied; In order to get a more effective result, the patient should undergo scaling before whitening. Before and after the sessions, photos are taken from the patient and the color is determined. Number of sessions to be applied is usually 2 or 3 and varies according to the coloration of the tooth. Before the procedure, the gums are covered with a protective barrier because we do not want the gums to be damaged and then the whitening gel is applied to the teeth. The whitening gel is applied to the teeth in 2 or 3 periods of approximately 15 minutes. Between the sessions, the patient is asked to avoid coloring foods (tea, coffee, wine, etc.) and to minimize smoking.

At Home Bleaching / Whitening

During at-home bleaching treatment, a transparent plaque suitable for the patient is customized with the measure taken from the patient before the treatment and the color is determined. In home teeth whitening, bleaching agents containing a lower percentage of “Carbamide Peroxide” are used. Tubes containing whitening agent and transparent plaque and are given to the patient and the physician explains how to apply them to their teeth at home. Patient applies the drug in accordance with the instructions of the dentist. It should be applied 2 times a day for 2 weeks or only at night for 1-2 weeks while sleeping. With weekly controls, the progress of the treatment is monitored and necessary changes can be made. The dentist and the patient should decide together which whitening method is the best for the patient.

Internal Tooth Bleaching

Teeth that have decay as a result of trauma or that have had root canal treatment change color. In order to whiten such teeth, caries is cleaned and root canal treatment is performed (for untreated teeth). Then, a protective barrier is applied to the pulp chamber of the tooth and a whitening agent (H2O2, carbamide peroxide, etc.) is applied for a few sessions. After reaching sufficient whiteness, tooth filling is performed. It is a preferred method especially for single tooth discoloration.
